Curious About the Cloud? You’re Already There
Judging by the growing industry chatter on the subject, the concept of cloud computing is about to enter the public consciousness in a big way. If you haven’t heard much about it yet, you will — and you’ll find that you’re already an expert user.
The cloud gives users access to remote services over a data network. It lowers capital expenses, guards against obsolescence, makes enterprise technologies available to smaller organizations, and transfers typical ownership risks and responsibilities — such as maintenance, management and upgrades — from the buyer to the seller.
Sound familiar? While the cloud may indeed be the “next big thing” for many businesses and organizations, take heart: with Appia, you’re already there, and you’re in a prime position to leverage every benefit ahead of your competition.

Ash Cloud Spurs Spike in Audio and Video Conferencing
Now for a cloud of a different color: As ash from the volcano in Iceland grounded flights across Europe this month, people flocked to alternatives, especially audio and video conferencing. Here’s some coverage from The New York Times.
TecHint: Privacy Protection on Toll-Free Numbers
Some people prefer to block their personal phone numbers from being displayed when they call another phone. If you call a toll-free or 900 number, this may not be possible. An FCC-regulated technology called Automatic Number Identification (ANI) enables toll-free and 900 calls to display a phone number even if the caller wants it blocked.
If you want to keep your phone number private, call a regular toll number instead of the toll-free number. If you have to use a toll-free or 900 number, tell the agent that you don’t want your number shared with solicitors.
