Affordable, next generation video communications
Spend less time and money on travel. Reduce your carbon footprint. See the non‐verbal cues that make up so much of communication. Meet in person whenever you need to meet, no matter where the participants are.
These are just a few of the benefits of video communications. So why has its adopton been so limited? Studies show that traditional video communications systems:
- Offer quality that is barely good enough for effective communication because they use a standard definition video format;
- Are expensive to buy and complicated to operate;
- Are expensive and unreliable because they use ISDN.
If these are some of the reasons you haven’t made the move, next generation video communications may be just what you’ve been waiting for.
Next Generation Video Communications
Next generation digital technology provides video communications at lower costs of ownership and operation. Imagine being able to meet across town or half‐way around the world with clarity of image and sound that are nearly the same as they would be in person. Next generation video communications makes it possible.
Appia Video Communicator with ActiveFrame® Technology
Today's video communications solutions are either conference room systems or Web/PC systems.
Conference room systems provide high video resolution and excellent quality, but are costly, use substantial bandwidth, an require participants to meet in a dedicated room. Web/PC systems have the benefits of low cost and flexibility, but video resolution tends to be low and quality is variable.
Using ActiveFrameR technology, Appia Video Communicator (AVC) achieves the benefits of both of these approaches in solutions that almost any company or organization can afford.
AVC Features and Benefits
Flexibility You can use AVC for video conferences, but also for training sessions,
announcements, and other settings in which one‐way communication is desired. AVC also allows you to hold a session at more than one display resolution. This means that the participants in your video sessions can attend even if they do not have an abundance of bandwidth available.
Free video decoding If you intend to use video communications mainly for broadcast, there is
no cost to the people who attend. They simply download and install a free application on PCs
that meet AVC requirements.
No need for a multi-point conferencing unit Most systems on the market require expensive multi‐point conferencing units (MCUs) at host sites for conferences with more than two participants. For a small monthly charge, you can use Appia’s Conference Server. Using the Conference Server means a lower capital investment and lower bandwidth requirements at the host site.
Saves on bandwidth Appia’s exclusive ActiveFrameR requires less bandwidth than any other solution on the market require.
AVC Options
AVC is offered in conference room and remote versions. All operate at up to 30 frames per
second.
- The AVC-1280 standalone unit for high and standard definition resolution is ideal for conference rooms.
- AVC-640, AVC-200, and AVC-100 software for remote users
- AVC-640 enables users to encode voice and video (640x480).
- AVC-200 allows users to see and hear conferences and encodes voice but not video.
- AVC-100 allows users to see and hear conferences but does not encode voice or video.
Appia will be happy to arrange for cameras, speakerphones, and displays or you can purchase them according to Appia’s requirements from vendors of your choice.
Appia also offers an inexpensive line of custom‐designed conference tables and display consoles for conference rooms.
